The 3 Best Flooring Options for Each Room of the House

February 21, 2022

There are a lot of choices to make when pursuing a home redesign. One pivotal piece of the puzzle is flooring. The material you choose will play a huge role in the comfort, style, and overall vibe of a room. Each area of a home will be better suited for a different type of flooring. Are you stuck on what flooring material to pick for your remodel? Here are the 3 best flooring options for each room of your home.

Kitchen, Bathrooms, and Laundry Room

When picking out flooring for these areas, you should consider durability, water resistance, and maintenance

Tile Floors

Tile is a great choice for your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. They offer a dent-resistant, durable finish for high-traffic areas. You can find tile in a variety of colors and shapes to fit your personal tastes. As an additional benefit, tile is fairly low-maintenance. You can simply vacuum and mop it regularly to keep it in good shape. Best of all, tile can last a lifetime!

Vinyl Flooring

Another excellent choice for these heavily trafficked areas of the home is vinyl. It comes in a variety of colors, textures, and shapes. You can even find a convincing wood floor dup in vinyl. This affordable option is fairly durable but can be prone to scratching. It’s a good idea to buy extra at the time of installation so you’ll have a perfect match if you need to replace a plank later.

Laminate Floor

By far the cheapest option, laminate flooring is an easy-to-maintain, water-resistant material perfect for any of these rooms. It is fairly durable for the price but can also be susceptible to scratching. One benefit of laminate flooring is the attached pad that can provide a comfortable underfoot feel and sound absorbance.

Living Room and Bedrooms

Flooring in the living room and bedrooms should provide comfort, durability, and a visually appealing finish

Hardwood Floors

Nothing is more classic and homey than hardwood flooring. It offers a uniform, quintessential look that could be suitable throughout the entire home. Hardwood flooring can be a pricey investment but it can also increase the resale value of your home down the road. It typically lasts a long time if well kept. Just remember, it doesn’t fare well in high-moisture areas such as the bathroom or laundry room.

Engineered Wood Flooring

If you like the look of hardwood flooring but can’t bring yourself to spend that much, engineered wood is your next best option. It is comprised of a thin veneer of finished wood attached to a plywood-like substrate. Since it’s cheaper, you may be able to achieve a more exotic look with veneers constructed out of Brazilian walnut or tigerwood. Engineered wood also tends to do better in high humidity environments than hardwood floors. It is less likely to succumb to shrinkage and swelling during seasonal changes. But while it’s quite durable, unfortunately, it doesn’t last as long as traditional hardwood.

Carpet

Yet another classic option, carpet offers a casual, comfortable touch to a living room or bedroom. Carpet provides a cozy under-foot feel and traditional look. It’s cheaper than hardwood and engineered wood to install. If you have a child, it’s a great option for comfortable play. But be aware that it can trap allergens. If this is a concern, you can always opt for a hypoallergenic carpet.

Garage

You should try to find flooring that is abrasion-resistant, stain-resistant, and low-cost when deciding what material to go with in your garage.

Epoxy Floors

One of the best flooring choices for a garage is epoxy flooring. It is not only extremely durable, but it also comes in a wide array of colors and hues. It can be even more stylized with the addition of colored flakes. This stain and abrasion-resistant flooring material can stand up to a lot of wear and tear which can be an asset to anyone who frequently works in their garage.

Polished Concrete Floors

If you’re looking for a low-cost, low-maintenance garage floor, polished concrete might be a great fit for you. The mirror-like finish offers a beautiful look that is similar to stone, marble, or tile. It can also be stained or dyed in just about any color that you’d like. It is extremely durable and long-lasting.

Vinyl Floor Tiles

Vinyl floor tiles can be another good option for your garage. While it isn’t nearly as resilient as epoxy or polished concrete flooring, it can hold its own in a low-traffic garage. It’s a low-cost, no-fuss option to protect your garage from small fluid leaks and minor abrasions. It also provides a nice, classic look.
