Our historic services can be integrated with our full design and construction offerings. We begin by auditing your property to determine whether it is listed, or eligible to be listed, on national, state, or local historic registries. If your property qualifies, we will facilitate the eligibility submission directly with your municipality’s Historic Preservation Committee.

    1. Based on their determination and your goals for the property, we design in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties to ensure all updates are compatible with the home’s historic character.

Historic preservation in architecture involves maintaining, restoring, and adapting existing structures while honoring their original design, materials, and craftsmanship. This process can include preservation, restoration, or renovation depending on the home’s condition and the owner’s goals.

When a property is listed on a historic registry, any renovation must be approached with sensitivity and follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties. We often collaborate with local Historic Preservation Committees to ensure all design modifications are compatible with the building’s original character.
  2. Once a property is listed, it is very difficult to remove it from the registry. Delisting typically requires legal processes involving title and other entities, which are outside the scope of our services.
